Sarah McDonald completed her BA in graphic design, with honors, at Leicester University. After working for several years as a freelance illustrator, she joined Mirror Syndication International (managed by Hulton Picture Collection) where she ascended from production assistant to production manager. Sarah became caption editor for Hulton Deutsch Collection in 1994, and within three years she was promoted to manager of the Caption and Keyword Department.
In 1998, due to her expertise with the archive, Sarah was appointed to her current role as curator of Hulton Getty, renamed Hulton Archive in 2000. She is primarily responsible for overseeing the preservation, maintenance and accessibility of all analogue collections stored at Getty Images' Unique House.
