Getty Images believes in the power of photojournalism to bring attention to significant social and cultural issues. We also know the rigors of executing world-class photography assignments and understand that in order to produce their best work, photojournalists need time, freedom and support. Getty Images is thus pleased to offer Grants for Editorial Photography. More than 136 photographers from around the world submitted applications for the Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography awarded in February 2008. Those applications were evaluated by 4 independent judges in January. Each judge considered the anonymous projects and sample photographs independently, and then met to select the winning projects. The winners for February 2008 Getty Images congratulates Lorena Ros and Ian Martin for their outstanding documentary photography proposals. More than a monetary award, Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography provide photographers with the creative freedom and collaborative editorial support necessary to produce documentary features that raise the bar of visual excellence. The next awards Every year, Getty Images awards five photojournalists individual grants of $20,000 each, for a total of $100,000. Grant recipients are given the opportunity to sign a one-year exclusive-rights deal with Getty Images whereby their work will be marketed and available for license to customers worldwide through gettyimages.com, while retaining copyright of their imagery. Upcoming grant application deadlines May 15, 2008 (Three grants will be announced September 2008.) November 15, 2008 (Two grants will be announced February 2009.) |
