The Pitch
"In Memory Of" shows how the unreliability of memory, photography and film can lead to the deception of truth and therefore the deception of history and self. We will demonstrate how dangerously easy it is, through strategically placed words and pictures, to alter the truth pertaining to an historical event. We take two entities that hold the powerful vernacular of truth, the voice of a war veteran passing on a story to his grandchild and archival footage. Despite the powerful combination, the content proves to be false. This makes you think about how our past could have unfolded when it comes to American history while also addressing the malleability of everything that documents our past; from our memory to photography. The concept of this piece is portrayed on two levels; one with the content of the piece, and two, with the questions left in the mind of the audience. It is those questions that I urge people to ask while watching anything presented to them in a convincing manner, whether it be the news, a film or a story. "In Memory Of" takes the "Big Idea" to a new level and truly utilizes unique stock footage and narrative to portray a powerful idea and evoke an important thought.
